Banned Books Week Resources
The ALA Website provides an annual list of the top challenged books.
The following 2014-15 packet was sponsored by the American Library Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, and other organizations. It has some great information on specific titles and the recorded REASONS they are challenged or banned. Very interesting, and useful in sparking conversation and debate!
In the "AUHSD Selection Policy," pages 12-16 are specifically related to library materials.
The "AUHSD Challenge Policy" outlines exactly how objections to books and other reading material must be handled by employees, the district, and the party initiating the challenge. Only a successful "challenge" results in the "banning" of a book.
Please also see the official "CHALLENGE FORM" that must be filled out completely if someone is trying to have a book removed from our shelves.
